Cardinals

When I bought my first house I hadn't really been much of a bird watcher. We were lucky however to have a family of Cardinals living in our backyard. I went out immediately and bought a feeder and watched the couple teach their youngest how to fly. Ever since then, I can admit now that I have become somewhat of a bird nerd. I actively seek out my guidebook whenever I see a feathered friend pass me by. The Cardinal however always stops me with their distinct chirp and I find myself looking up to find them.
The Cardinal has been chosen by seven states to be their official state bird. It can be seen throughout the twelve months of the year and their eggs hatch in twelve days. This number twelve is why some believe that they are lucky. When a Cardinal flies into your life, you can expect a change for the better, so always be sure to welcome the Cardinal to your windowsill.

What do you do with your old concert tickets?

If you are like me, you may have an envelope or a scrapbook where you keep your old concert tickets. I started going to shows on my own accord at about 14 and over those years have collected a lot of tickets. I would never dream of throwing that little piece of history away. If given the choice, I rarely opt to print out tickets for shows at home, but instead wait for them to be mailed to me and even go to the venues box office to pick up tickets if given the chance. Each ticket holds a piece of my heart, a memory that won't disappear, and a song that is hummed without second thought...

I decided it was time to do something with the 15+ years of tickets I had been hoarding. Did I want to put them in a scrapbook? Not really, since then they would be put on a shelf to be brought down to tell my children and my grandchildren about how awesome it was to see David Bowie in 1997. So when I saw that my local craft store had some canvases on sale, I decided to use some Mod Podge and paste them up on there, add a little paint, and rock on!

So what do you guys do with your concert tickets? Are they in a box under the bed? Or do you *gasp* throw them away? Every time a concert ticket is thrown away an inspiration for a song disappears

Orchids

Orchids have been a strong tradition in my family with my mother and uncle being the most extreme. My uncle constructed his own atrium to hold his. I was happy that when I got my first orchid as a gift 7 years ago, that I did not kill it. I recently discovered through a friend that the great minds at Philly-based Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters have opened a store in Glen Mills, PA. It's called Terrain and it is one of a kind shop. Not only is there a cafe there (because chances are I would be there for days) but they also offer landscaping services.

Is it bad that I could see myself planning a trip just to visit this store? I would forever live outside. It looks as though it about 45 minutes from Philly....hmmm I do have friends in Philly

All Hail the Queen

This past weekend while helping my son clean his room it dawned on me that his walls were missing something. The lucky kid was able to spend some time in England this past summer and really got to experience Britian firsthand over the course of his 6 week stay. At first, I was thinking to paint something which would easy peezy, but after doing some research, there are a lot more possibilities of things I could do.

This last piece gets me because a few years ago we owned the same style dresser. It was given to us by a friend for free, and I spray painted it red. Eventually we sold it at a garage sale. Little did I know I was so close to something grand...

Now I lay me down to sleep...
