This post is for my husband who has been attracted to various ornamental grasses lately. Even though they look so simple, they really can add another level of design to your yard. There are grasses available for every zone.

Do Fun Stuff!
Ryan was one of the first people I met when I moved to Orlando in 2000. My roommate and I had just settled into our new place and decided to look around at what was nearby. We landed in a small shopping center by the university and found the red lights of a bar called Backbooth inviting us to them. Inside was an amazing selection of beer and a music event practically happening every night in the smallest bar space I had ever been. We became regulars there and quickly settled with the 3 man show running the bar. The boys nicknamed me Chevy. The first, the only, and the best nickname I have ever had. That first night was the beginning of a lot of things for all of us.
Ten years later and we are far from that little bar scene. When Ryan became a step-father I was so happy. Here was someone else I knew living the life I had been trying to figure out with my step-kids. He started this blog Pacing the Panic Room and completely ran with it. His first posts were my posts. Every time he writes or creates something now I am blown away more than I was before. I'm glad that Ryan found his outlet.
I couldn't not help him with his cause. My stepchildren are like my own and I would fight till the death for my kids. He has created a kids charity album made with contemporary artists. Brilliant really. Go ahead take a listen...don't worry, its for all of you.

Fly Fly Away
Ah Monday - there you are.
The rugrats are off to school today and at a new one no less. They are starting a Charter School and I am just over the moon and ready for the experience. I wish I could be a fly on the wall, or a little birdie on their shoulder.
Baby Harper |
I went to a baby shower yesterday for a dear friend. Aside from getting her a few items off her registry, I also made her a little birdie and birdhouse. J has been my design partner-in-crime for a long time. We have dreamed for many years to run off and start our own company. Maybe one day we will.
Fly away, sweet bird of prey
Fly Fly away
Fly Fly away
I won't stand in your way
Sweet bird, if you knew the words
I know that you'd say: fly, fly away
Oh yeah...got this... Love these Anthropologie Gladiator Birds. So lovely and steam punk. |

What's your damage Heather?
I had such a wonderful weekend that I can only let that happiness coast me through Monday. The kids go back to school in a week and I'm not going to lie, I am looking forward to it. We were invited yesterday to a good friend's home for food and croquet. It was a full on blast!
A Motley Crew
With the influence of croquet in my mind, I can't help but be in love with some preppy patterns this morning. Have a wonderful Monday friends xox

Must Make Birds!
If there is one thing you should know about me it is that I am a #birdnerd 4 life! I must have some avian blood in me or something cause my head perks up every time I hear a feathered one make a sound. I stumbled across this beautiful tutorial for a bird mobile. I have a few friends that are having baby girls soon, so this would be an adorable gift BUT I kinda wanna be selfish and make it for moi.
Go visit ECAB aka Eighteenth Century Agrarian Business (I wish I was making that fabulous name up) and find out how to make it yourself.
My kids are starting a new school in a few weeks - a Charter school and I am just over the moon! They are having a Back to School BBQ this Saturday and I am this tempted to make the dessert that I am being asked to bring in. Don't these little guys look fun? Why yes, there is chocolate cake in there...

Hello Mr. Zebra...
My daughter mentioned to me this past week that she wanted to re-do her bedroom in Zebra print. I love a good animal pattern like the next but my eyes bulged a little when I thought of some gaudy print overtaking her room. Especially since she said she wanted bright purple too. When done right, the look can be classic. When done wrong, a design angel looses his wings somewhere, erm out there...
If you try and google purple and zebra the looks are not pretty. I have a few ideas of what to do with her room but here are some rooms that are taking the print and giving it a new life.
Do you use animal prints in your house? I saw one of those makeover house shows where a woman's whole house was in leopard. Like the whole damn house. It was sad.
