Arts Benefit to help World Food Program

I met Angie Ross on Punkymoms almost five years ago. We were both there searching to find other like minded alternative mothers out there. We succeeded and I can honestly say that my core group of friends here in Orlando are all Punkymoms.

With that said, I am so proud (again!) of Angie. She recently visited the World Food Program Guatemala Operations and had to do something here to help. She has put together a great benefit for this coming Saturday night. If you are local in Orlando, I ask you to come out. Nothing says getting older then giving your money to charity instead of the bar downtown.

The first annual All Arts Against Hunger Charity Benefit will be held on September 18 from 7-11 PM; proceeds will benefit the World Food Program.  The event will feature performances and exhibits from some of Central Florida’s top artists as well as a silent auction.
In May 2010, Angie Ross traveled to Guatemala with the World Food Program and witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the chronic and acute hunger that is affecting 1 in 6 people across the globe.  During this trip, she met with local farmers participating in the Purchase for Progress program as well as visited rural communities suffering from lost crops due to climate change.  When her departure was delayed due to volcanic eruptions and a severe tropical storm that received little coverage within the United States, it became clear that there was a disconnect from our experience here and the “hungry billion” that suffer from chronic and acute malnutrition globally.  From this experience, Arts Against Hunger was created to unite artists across all mediums to raise awareness for hunger by using the beauty that we create as human beings as an expression of compassion.
